Iraqi policemen joined, while shops belonging to Jews burnt and synagogues destroyed. more than 250 people were killed or slaughters and more than 2000 injured. The attack was vicious and beastly. The horrible cries of the killed, injured and raped were echoing from the houses and added to the fear of the old and young. After three days of this pogrom, luckily, came to an end, when the Iraqi army interfered and threw out the Gailani Nazi government and. many of the members were arrested. This period called by Jews 'Farhud'' which denotes the breakdown of the law and order' when life and property are in peril.
